SPACE AT SHORT NOTICE/

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:

SPACE AT SHORT NOTICE/

The Substation is inviting artists and creative practitioners to join our Space at Short Notice mailing list.

Space at Short Notice provides artists with access to The Substation’s spaces for rehearsals, workshops and meetings at no cost, when spaces become available at short notice.

This initiative is designed to support artists who need flexible access to space and are looking for occasional, short-term use of The Substation’s facilities. It is not intended for ongoing, recurring or long-term bookings.

HOW IT WORKS

Artists who join the Space at Short Notice mailing list will receive an email from The Substation when space becomes available.

Available spaces will only be released one week in advance, depending on venue availability.

If you would like to use the space, simply reply to the email. Requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis, and our Visitor Services Coordinator will confirm your booking.

Joining the mailing list does not guarantee access to space. Availability will depend on The Substation’s programming schedule and operational requirements.

AVAILABLE TIMES

Space access is only available during The Substation’s opening hours:

Wednesday–Saturday (excluding public holidays), 11:00am–5:00pm

A maximum of one booking per day is available.

Where a date conflict arises, confirmed paid Venue Hire bookings will take precedence over any in-kind space bookings, regardless of prior scheduling.

WHAT THE SPACE CAN BE USED FOR

Space at Short Notice is suitable for:

  • rehearsals
  • creative development
  • workshops
  • meetings
  • planning sessions

The space cannot be used for:

  • ticketed events
  • commercial activities
  • profit-making activities
  • public presentations or performances

This opportunity is intended for artists and creative practitioners developing work, meeting with collaborators or undertaking creative practice.

WHAT THE SUBSTATION PROVIDES

  • Access to available venue spaces
  • A basic playback sound system may be provided if required (3.5mm jack input)

Artists are responsible for bringing any additional equipment, materials or resources required for their activity.

Please note that The Substation does not provide production support, technical support, equipment hire or additional staffing as part of this opportunity.

WHO SHOULD JOIN

Space at Short Notice is best suited to artists and creative practitioners who:

  • require space at short notice
  • need occasional access rather than regular bookings
  • are developing work, preparing projects or meeting with collaborators
  • are flexible with timing and availability

This opportunity is open to artists and creative practitioners across disciplines who are interested in accessing The Substation’s spaces.
