PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION
A Residual Pulse by Meagan Streader transforms The Substation into an immersive environment shaped by its hidden architectures and atmospheric systems. Drawing on the building’s history as a power conversion site, the exhibition traces airflow, structural geometries, and material imprints through light, flicker, and suspended form. Lines of illumination trace, extend and connect across multiple galleries. A suspended sculpture mimics the architectural frames and subtle air currents circulating through the building’s ventilation systems. A cluster of Neon echoes the marks of removed hinges and machinery, hovering like fragments of an industrial after-image.
Together, the works engage the building as a living structure – one that continues to circulate air, energy, and memory. A Residual Pulse activates the physical fabric of The Substation to draw attention to the building’s history. It invites audiences into a world which explores the quiet convergence between past, present and future – as a site of ongoing transformation.
Meagan Streader works across light, installation, and sculpture. Her practice explores the intersection of art, architecture, and design, investigating how light and material can shape spatial perception and emotional experience. Through site-responsive works, she engages the psychological, historical and atmospheric qualities of built environments, creating immersive installations that heighten awareness of space, memory, and the subtle forces that shape how we move through and feel within architectural settings.
