RESIDENT OPPORTUNITY/
The Substation is seeking Expressions of Interest from Victorian-based companies and organisations working within the creative sector to join our community of Residents.
We currently have one studio available, offering an opportunity to become part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary creative environment in Melbourne’s west.
Current Resident Companies include one of Australia’s leading contemporary ensembles Australian Art Orchestra, youth arts organisation Western Edge Youth Arts and CONJAH, one of the most exciting performance collectives from Aotearoa.
THE RESIDENT PROGRAM
The Resident Program offers creative companies and organisations the opportunity to establish a base within The Substation’s creative ecosystem. Residents receive:
- Subsidised long-term studio or office space
- 24-hour access
- All amenities included (excluding phone)
- Potential access to rehearsal space, gallery space and meeting rooms at no cost (subject to availability)
- Consideration for development and presentation opportunities within The Substation’s curated program
AVAILABLE STUDIO
Studio 7 (3.7m x 4.4m)
Weekly rent starts from $150 per week (excluding GST), depending on the size and nature of the resident company.

WHO SHOULD APPLY
We welcome Expressions of Interest from organisations and companies working within the creative or not-for-profit sector as a priority. Commercial entities are eligible to apply, however their primary activity must be creative or community focused.
We welcome applications from a broad range of practitioners and companies, including:
- arts companies and organisations
- design studios
- architecture studios
- Creative and/or community focused agencies
- interdisciplinary collectives
- creative practitioners and organisations working across contemporary cultural practice
We are particularly interested in residents who are interested in engaging with The Substation’s site, contributing to a vibrant creative community and participating in an environment of experimentation, collaboration and exchange. Residents should have a practice that aligns with The Substation’s values and creative ecosystem, and a desire to contribute to a shared environment of makers, thinkers and collaborators.

Interested companies and organisations must complete the online form here. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to The Substation to view the available studio and discuss their needs and suitability with our team.
