PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION
In Recasting Shadows, Kate Robinson delves into the intricacies of her own family's history, where stories are woven from fragments of memories, gossip between sisters, and the resonance of photographs stored in shoeboxes. Through a series of portraits Robinson explores how personal narratives pass down through generations to become an indelible part of identity.
At the heart of Recasting Shadows lies the tale of displacement from Iran and the unfulfilled dreams that linger in the collective consciousness. Robinson is inspired by a collection of pre-1979 Iran photographs, generously shared by her aunt Mehri. These family portraits serve as a key to unravelling the artist's personal journey in understanding what it truly means to be Persian.
