PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION

KERFEW, a collective of South Asian artists, musicians and DJs founded in 2022, bring their signature underground curation to The Substation for the first time with one purpose: creating space that allows its artists, guests and partygoers to break imposed moulds while surrounded with hospitality and community.

KERFEW brings its most ambitious program yet: TESTING, an entire Substation takeover showcasing South Asian artists and performers who bridge and probe between classical, contemporary and experimental music.

Curated and produced by Kamna Muddagouni and Saieesh Shanmugarajah.

ARTIST LINEUP

  • Aarti Jadu (live): A solo set by an artist known for creating a hybrid of cinematic compositions and bass music laced with disparate vocal arrangements.
  • Arsonist (DJ) (EORA): A Naarm debut for EORA based Bengali born DJ who presents unapparent danceability and abrasive headyness, with percussive textures.
  • Bhairavi Raman and Nantesh Sivarajah (live): A duet of violin and mridangam presenting classical carnatic music and drone based experimentation.
  • Hantu x Vinod Prasanna (live): A debut performance by student and guru exploring contemporary and traditional bansuri (flute).
  • Rakini Devi (film + performance) (NGURRA): A live art and dance performance alongside the depiction of film, URBAN KALI.
  • R Rebeiro (live): A groundbreaking exploring visceral, gritty textures with trace percussion improvisations set by renowned percussionist and sound artist

Interstitials by kāmna and Food by MyNameChef (Ronen Jafari).

Arrive early to enjoy food and live instrumental performances steeped in classical and contemporary practices, and then settle in as the performances get more experimental, electronic and moody.
