PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION & ROOM40

For over two decades, Canadian composer Tim Hecker has defined, and re-defined, the terrain of ambient music into the 21st century. Working with a seemingly counterintuitive logic, one of intensity, saturation and harmony, he has terraformed the once milder sound-fields and in their place has fostered new sonic cathedrals that push at the very edges of form and expectation. This restlessness is a hallmark of Hecker’s work, and is deeply reflected in his live performances that are best described as hauntingly morphic and foggy, as he reshapes his sonic pieces into truly physical and material experiences. His work stands as one of the central pillars of contemporary electronics, a position that seems more vital than ever as the 21st century unfolds.

He is joined by Iranian born, New Zealand-based, artist mHz (the nom de plume of Mo Zareei). As mHz, Zareei's work charts a politically and sonically charged reading current geopolitics. He presents his A/V work Cruise Missile Intersectionality, a blunt political commentary on the paradoxical nature of performative allyship.

Presented in conjunction with Soft Centre.
