PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION AND ROOM40
The legacy of David Grubbs is the stuff of legend. From his earliest days as a founding member of hardcore unit Squirrel Bait through his tenure in the post-everything outfit Gastr Del Sol and onto his multifaceted career as a soloist he has navigated an orbit that has constantly accumulated gravity and presence. After a slew of solo and collective works of the past half decade Grubbs returns to Australia with a tidal wave of his iconic form of dynamic song-play.
Grubbs is joined by English ambient-exotica trailblazer Mike Cooper. Celebrating his 80th anniversary, Cooper’s work over the past six decades is as divergent as it is inspiring. Merging an interest in unusual soundscapes, extended Hawaiian slide techniques, devolved song form and evocative ambiences, Mike Cooper’s output is sublime and utterly unique. Little surprise he has recently been held up as one of the masters of music’s outer limits.
Hailing from Sydney, Megan Alice Clune joins this evening for a special presentation of her work that charts a course through experimental composition, harmony and texture. Her latest edition, Furtive Glances collects together a series of off handed improvisations and uses them as a basis from which she crafts effortlessly deep tone poems.
