PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION AND LUCY GUERIN INC

This December, three key artists at the forefront of dance in Naarm, Luke George, Amrita Hepi and Harrison Ritchie-Jones, premiere new works at The Substation, each with a distinct and powerful voice, in an eclectic triple bill that embodies risk, boldness and experimentation.

PIECES is Lucy Guerin Inc's annual commissioning program, giving three exceptional choreographers the opportunity to research, develop and perform new short works.

This unique program reminds us of the capacity of contemporary dance to unveil, defy and inspire. It is an invitation to come together and celebrate the electrifying vitality of live performance.

COMMISSIONS INCLUDE:

Fell
by Luke George

In Fell, Luke George retraces his roots in Tasmania / lutruwita, recalling in particular the impacts of the logging industry. In seeking a state of balance between himself and a log that is equal in weight to his body, George attempts to suspend the narrative of a human will to power so that other memories, including those of nature might also become sensible.

Creative Team
Choreographer and performer: Luke George
Dramaturg: Daniel Kok
Lighting Designer: Katie Sfetkidis
Rigger: Rockie Stone

Thank you: Thank you to The Substation, Circus Oz, Ash Snare and Nick Roux.

Development of this work has been supported through The Unconformity Artist in Residence Program and through Performance Space and Sydney University Discipline of Theatre and Performance Studies' Experimental Performance Residency at the Rex Cramphorn Theatre.

The Read

by Amrita Hepi

Everybody dances, everybody has sex. Though the line for a professional in these industries is different. The Read explores the body in professional service, in a collaboration between a choreographer/dancer and a sex worker. So often when lost in the act or observations of moments of irreverence or desire, we forget the transmissions or transgressions that have led us there. The labour that leads us to the sex, dance, pleasure, race and the brief encounter with the thrill of a body.

Creative Team
Choreographer and Director: Amrita Hepi
Collaborator/Co-creator: Tilly Lawless
Dramaturg: Mish Grigor
Outside Eye: Sarah Aiken
Sound Designer: Daniel Jenatsch
Lighting Designer: Katie Sfetkidis
