PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION AND RISING
CRIP RAVE THEORY is a party and a proposition: a club night outside the club that draws on disabled/crip knowledge to create more intersectionally-accessible party spaces. A chance for partygoers to show up as their fullest selves, with a focus on community solidarity, self-expression, pleasure and expanding club culture.
Open to all and founded by DJ Aquenta (Riana Head-Toussaint) in 2022, it centres and celebrates all those who’ve traditionally been marginalised and de-prioritised in commercial nightlife spaces.
For this RISING edition, CRT welcomes headliners Aisha Mirza and BAE BAE to the decks.
Here from the UK, Aisha Mirza is a DJ, writer, councillor and creator of MISERY – mental health-focused club night for queer, trans, intersex and non-binary black people and people of colour.
BAE BAE hails from LA, blending R&B, house, jungle, garage, dancehall and more. She also runs a club night in Los Angeles called Hood Rave, which celebrates black femmes and queer people.
There’ll be sets from Tinka and Aquenta too, with more to be announced.
Arrive early for a more chill energy, settle in as the party builds, and hang out for the deep ambient wash out as things cool down again at end of the night.
WARNINGS
This is an 18+ event. This event contains sustained loud noises, and includes pole dancing and stripping.

CRIP RAVE THEORY is a disability-led event. We recognise that access needs are individualised, ever-changing, and often clash. We are trying to cultivate a space where people willingly and genuinely show up in solidarity and care for each other, respecting everyone’s bodily realities as much as possible, and adjusting practices and facilities where possible.
Please email RISING if you have access requirements you would like to discuss at access@rising.melbourne.
