Sabrina Nungarrayi Gibson is a Warlpiri artist born in 1975 at Mparntwe/Alice Springs hospital, the closest hospital to Nyirripi, a remote Aboriginal community located 400 km to the north-west. After finishing her schooling in Nyirripi and Mparntwe, Sabrina worked in many different roles including in the store, school, aged care and childcare centres. She lives and works in Nyirripi with her husband and four children and is also an artist.
Her paintings are inspired by her grandmother, the acclaimed Pintupi artist Mitjili Napanangka Gibson. Sabrina’s dynamic and vibrant acrylic paintings likewise depict colourful and complex representations of Wirnpa Jukurrpa (Lightning Dreaming). Currently, she works out of Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation (1986). Warlukurlangu means ‘belonging to fire’ in the local language, Warlpiri, and is named for a fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu.
