The Substation/​ Artist/​Mish Grigor/

Mish Grigor is a performance maker, writer, and performer.

Time Out called her "one of our most adventurous, funny and original theatre-makers."

With projects often departing from her own experiences, Grigor connects tangible everyday dilemmas with larger political and philosophical concepts. In making them, she draws on half-remembered anecdotes, official histories, fake realities, mythology, irony, bad movies, bad plays, and bad songs. And weird feelings.

Mish likes what other people can do to her process and practice: she is co-artistic director of APHIDS, one third of POST, has made a few shows with Pan Pan (Ireland), a couple with dancer Amrita Hepi, and she sluts around other collaborative arrangements based on who will have her.

Grigor directed and co-wrote RINSE with Amrita Hepi. It toured to FTA Montreal, then to the Festival d'Avignon in 2025 (the only Australian work ever presented at that festival), and to Sydney Opera House in 2026, among other contexts worldwide. In 2024, her APHIDS work Class Act toured to Sydney Opera House and Vital Statistix, after premiering at The Substation. She also performed in The First Bad Man, A Book Club Based on the Novel by Miranda July, notably at Lincoln Center (Under the Radar Festival).  Developed at National Theatre Studio (UK) with Pan Pan Theatre, the piece has toured to six countries.

Her deep irreverence for the institution of theatre and deep reverence for the magic moments of the liveness it houses have amused, bemused and probably annoyed audiences around the globe.

Her work has been presented or commissioned by Sydney Opera House, Malthouse Theatre, Sydney Festival, RISING Festival, The Substation, Belvoir St Theatre, Art Gallery of South Australia/Adelaide Biennial, Sydney Theatre Company, Performance Space, PICA, Artshouse, West Kowloon Cultural District/Hong Kong Rep Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre (UK), Reckless Sleepers (Belgium), Nature Theatre of Oklahoma (USA), Taipei Performing Arts Centre, La Mama (New York), and Centro Gabriela Mistral (GAM) in Chile, amongst others.

She is very bad at keeping plants alive but is super proud of the flamingo flower thriving on her dining table for four years with no soil, only water. So, miracles are possible.
