The Substation/ Artist/Marcus Whale/

Marcus Whale lives and works on Gadigal land.

Releasing music since the 2000s with Collarbones, BV, and under his own name, Marcus Whale builds an electronic world around his voice, taking an agnostic and exploratory approach to genre.

His solo albums The Hunger and Inland Sea, along with all five Collarbones albums, have been nominated for the Australian Music Prize. His performances draw from the spectacle of religious ritual, incorporating costume collaborations with Calli Comical, Megan Hanson, Chloe Corkran, and Athena Thebus, often extending beyond the stage and into the audience.

His performance works have been presented by Performance Space, Sydney Opera House, Next Wave, Asia TOPA, Soft Centre, Now or Never, Dark Mofo, Campbelltown Arts Centre, and Vivid.
