The Substation/ Artist/DRM/

DRM (Daniel R Marks) is an artist and researcher based in Naarm/Melbourne, working in an interdisciplinary choreographic practice which engages intersections of image-making and surveillance histories, ephemeral and extractive materialities, queer radicalism and technological power. DRM works in a hybrid practice centring performance documentation/documentary performance, also working with experimental digital media and audio, visual art, and sculpture.

DRM holds a PhD in Art from RMIT University School of Art, and is a lecturer at RMIT University School of Fashion & Textiles in the Bachelor of Fashion (Design) program. Recent solo work has been programmed by ACMI, LGI, Temperance Hall and Liquid Architecture, and they are affiliated with international research networks Performing Dress Lab, Posthuman Art Network, and the Australasian Science & Technology Studies Network.

DRM is developing their new choreographic-exhibition work Tract of Decision for The Substation Galleries across 2027-2028. The work is conceived as a series of gestures to agitate the ‘convict gene’ – becoming sequences of mimicry and digestion between body and double, including through use of lung-powered instruments, bodily acoustics and speech.
