PRESENTED BY NEWPORT FIDDLE & FOLK CLUB

The Newport Folk Festival returns this year with a delightful package of concerts, workshops and join-in sessions that will warm the hearts of all music lovers. The Substation is just one of numerous venues hosting music across Newport on Saturday 24 June. The festival will showcase dancing (Austral – Celtic, The Royal High Jinx – European, Harmaniax – Cajun); choirs (Pitchface – Yarraville, Sweet Monas Choir – Ballarat) and orchestral music (Newport Strings, Orkeztra Glasso Bashalde, Footscray Gypsy Orchestra).

The Substation will host the festival-return of one of Australia’s finest fingerpicking guitarists, Jordan Brodie, who will perform and then unravel the mysteries of his craft in a separate workshop. Other festival delights playing at The Substation include Dandelion Wine (an ethereal electro-medieval band with medieval instruments, female vocals and electronic beats), and Lachlan Hawkins from Brisbane who plays the handpan with hypnotic melodic rhythms and deep lyrics to soothe the soul.

Come along and join in by playing, singing, dancing or sit back and soak in the music. Who knows – you might even be inspired to join the Newport Fiddle & Folk Club and become a musician.

Newport Folk Festival is a great community festival first created by the Newport Fiddle & Folk Club back in 2008. It has a long history of contributing to the cultural life of Newport and the Hobsons Bay Area.
