A collaboration with Nampei Akaki, Toyoumi Komodo-en, Gaito Uenobe, and Emmaline Zanelli, on The Substation's exterior Billboard Gallery (west-facing.)

Kintsugi Art Brut is a collage of fragments from Little Penguin Cup - a project spanning works made in Japan, refecting Nampei’s experience in Australia and excerpts of the Kintsugi Supermarket exhibition held at The Substation in February 2020. Nampei’s photos are overlaid with a special collection of drawings from Toyoumi Komodo-en (kujukuri Kindergarten in Chiba, Japan) created as part of the Little Penguin Cup project.

Info Expand

Kintsugi Supermarket is Australia's first born and bred Australian Japanese fusion repurposed art, discount department store. The first store opened at The Substation in Victoria in early 2020, for one night only, followed by an exhibition of work.

Kintsugi Supermarket employed interactive audience engagement to build unique products, using recycled art and materials provided from a wide variety of Australian and Japanese artists.
