The Substation/ Hyphenated Projects, Phuong Ngo/ Hyphenated Biennial Artist Walkthrough/
Free
Join artists Jenna Lee, Ellen YG Son, Siying Zhou and Ashley Perry, along with co-director of Hyphenated Projects, Phuong Ngo, for artist floor talks and a walkthrough of the Hyphenated Biennial exhibition.
Curated by Hyphenated Projects, the inaugural Hyphenated Biennial presents ten new commissions by First Nations and Asian diasporic artists.
Hyphenated Biennial is a multi-venue exhibition that has supported a collective of artists in Melbourne’s west throughout the turbulent years of 2020 and 2021.
The exhibition explores the artists’ personal histories, the sites they inhabit, the materials they inherit and the systems we all exist within. At a time of huge loss, artists and curators of the project have been confronted with questions of existence, agency, and the responsibility to those around us. Between the personal and the collective, across time and space, they respond to one another through knowledge learned, embodied and shared.
Hyphenated Biennial sets out to strengthen the community in the hope of informing the grand narratives of our time with care and solidarity. Here, a seed is sown for our possible collective futures.
Hyphenated Biennial is a multi-venue program presented in partnership with The Substation, Footscray Community Arts, Incinerator Gallery and Sunshine Art Spaces. To view the full program please visit hyphenatedbiennial.art
