Wheelchair accessible, Auslan interpreted event

Ally price: $49
Queer and trans people of colour: $25
First Nations and/or disabled community: $19

CRIP RAVE THEORY is a party and a proposition: a club night outside the club that draws on disabled/crip knowledge to create more intersectionally-accessible party spaces. A chance for partygoers to show up as their fullest selves, with a focus on community solidarity, self-expression, pleasure and expanding club culture.

Open to all and founded by DJ Aquenta (Riana Head-Toussaint) in 2022, it centres and celebrates all those who’ve traditionally been marginalised and de-prioritised in commercial nightlife spaces.

For this RISING edition, CRT welcomes headliners Aisha Mirza and BAE BAE to the decks.

Here from the UK, Aisha Mirza is a DJ, writer, councillor and creator of MISERY – mental health-focused club night for queer, trans, intersex and non-binary black people and people of colour.

BAE BAE hails from LA, blending R&B, house, jungle, garage, dancehall and more. She also runs a club night in Los Angeles called Hood Rave, which celebrates black femmes and queer people.

There’ll be sets from Tinka and Aquenta too, with more to be announced.

Arrive early for a more chill energy, settle in as the party builds, and hang out for the deep ambient wash out as things cool down again at end of the night.

This is an 18+ event. This event contains sustained loud noises, and includes pole dancing and stripping.

  • Venue Map
  • Auslan Interpreters
We will have Auslan interpreters available at the party. They will be interpreting the Welcome to Country, the housekeeping address, and will also be available for social interpreting. Exact timings will be communicated closer to the event date.
  • Low Sensory Space
There will be a low sensory space separate from the main party area for those who need some time to chill out. Please note that the capacity of this space is limited.
  • Venue Orientation Tour
For anyone who requires it, there will be an opportunity for a venue orientation tour at the beginning of the party, to help attendees familiarise themselves with the space and facilities available. You can register your interest by emailing
  • Physical Venue Access
There is a ramp to enter the main entrance to the building. There is an elevator located on the ground floor, to the left of the lobby, that will take you to levels 1, 2 and 3. There are accessible and all-gender bathrooms on ground floor and level 2. A range of seating options will be available in all areas.
  • Parking
There is ample off-street parking in front of and behind the building, and four dedicated accessible parking spaces in the car park to the north of the venue entrance. There is also three accessible parking spaces on the opposite side of the road outside the Newport RSL.
  • Communications
More detailed access information will be communicated through the @cripravetheory Instagram page – please follow this for regular updates in the lead up to the event. This information will also be sent out to ticketholders several days prior to the event via email.

CRIP RAVE THEORY is a disability-led event. We recognise that access needs are individualised, ever-changing, and often clash. We are trying to cultivate a space where people willingly and genuinely show up in solidarity and care for each other, respecting everyone’s bodily realities as much as possible, and adjusting practices and facilities where possible.

Please email RISING if you have access requirements you would like to discuss at

This event is co-presented by The Substation and RISING.

Arkadia is a new dance opera from Melanie Lane, developed at The Substation as part of our In Development program.

A mythic dance-work that imagines life and afterlife in a garden of paradise, Arkadia invites you to step across the threshold into a realm of dreams.

Inspired by speculative utopias and science fiction, experience a Garden of Paradise where gods, nymphs and aliens transform. Bodies unite and suspend as mythic entities that stretch between the natural and digital worlds. This is a place to reflect on extinction, reincarnation and the afterlife.

This performance contains nudity, haze and loud music. Please note, during the performance, a small amount of water may be flicked onto the audience.

This event is wheelchair accessible and gender neutral accessible toilets are available. Read on for access and travel information.
