Cain And Abel is an electrifying theatrical experience, a provocative and bloody retelling of a story that has stained the earth and our psyche for millennia.

The biblical story of Cain And Abel is the tale of the first act of violence – an act that ricocheted across time. It envisions our history as man on man, brother on brother, blood on the earth. Well beyond its religious beginnings, it is a story that has defined our contemporary understanding of violence. The Rabble has reimagined the story as a female one, with two sisters at the centre of the work (Mary Helen Sassman And Dana Miltins). The sisters recreate the first act of violence over and over again – from biblical sanctity to the spectacle of Hollywood. This is The Rabble at their best: a brave, iconoclastic and visually arresting work that questions our core assumptions about femininity and violence.

Unwoman is song. Unwoman is a crime. Unwoman is a real and substantial risk.

Unwoman is an epic and imagistic piece of feminist theatre created in both Ireland and Australia, examining reproductive rights, experiences of pregnancy and bodily autonomy.

Made with The Rabble, professional performers and a community ensemble of pregnant performers, Unwoman is an invocation of the pregnant body as a plurality of experiences. It is visceral, carnal and an uncompromising piece of feminist theatre horrified by the history and laws attempting to curb bodily autonomy and reproductive rights.

Unwoman Part III was co-created with Maeve Stone in Dublin 2018.

Unwoman is presented by The Substation, The Rabble and Due West Arts Festival. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. Unwoman Part III was co-created with Maeve Stone featuring Olwen Fouere and was developed at Fringe Labs with commissioning support from Dublin Fringe Festival and producing support from Pan Pan Theatre.

Warning: Unwoman addresses themes of birth, labour, pregnancy, fertility, medical intervention, and abortion. There are graphic descriptions, strong language and themes, loud sounds, and use of haze. You are welcome to leave the performance at any time. The ushers in the performance can help you leave the seating bank.
