IN DEVELOPMENT
Seven x 7 (working title) is a dance work obsessed with the number 7. Its significance permeates across cultures and time, symbolising totality, wholeness and perfection. In classical antiquity, the number 7 represents the union of the spiritual (number 3) with the physical (number 4). This equation offers an unusual explanation of the process of dancing - a corporeal, transcendent experience. In religion, mathematics, folklore, music and more, the number 7 returns again and again. Caught up in the sacred repetition of this ubiquitous symbol, Seven x 7 harnesses dance as a ritualistic endeavour towards wholeness; it is a reverent meditation to the number 7.
Seven x 7 is an extension of Dinh's recent short work 'Seven dances for two people' originally commissioned by Lucy Guerin Inc for PIECES 2024. A duet, in its first form, this development supports the expansion of the work to a cast of 7 dancers, towards a 2026 premiere season.
