Under tuition students are shown the Asian techniques required to produce a portrait of great depth and detail. The course introduces the student to the concepts of form, light and shadow, visual measurement, standard head measurements, planular observation, gridding and backgrounds to obtain a pencil portrait of a required subject.
Students produce various head shapes and forms and examine and sketch the elements of the head among various class members. Working from a photograph of satisfactory quality, students produce a full face and three quarter face view of their subject of choice.

Cost: $27.50 per session inc. GST (charged per term)
Additional Costs: 2 posed photographs @ $5 per photograph (if required)
Materials Required: A3 sketchbook, 2h, 2b, 6b and 8b graphite pencils, med eraser, 30cm plastic ruler, black carbon powder, medium chinese brush, no.2 deer foot brush, no.12 & no.24 round sable brushes, no.4 torchon, no.4 carbon pencil, cotton wool balls and small plastic tray. Note: all required materials may be provided by student or by tutor at cost.
